Open postdoctoral position to dive into new avenues!
We are advertising an open postdoctoral position in a new collaborative research project on stem cell heterogeneity and Wnt signaling in rhabdomyosarcoma, jointly hosted by our group at Heidelberg University and Christel Herold-Mende (University Hospital Heidelberg), combining direct access to patient tumor material, primary cell culture, drug screening platforms, and advanced spatial omics and imaging infrastructure.
We are looking for a curious and self-driven postdoc excited to explore rhabdomyosarcoma heterogeneity at the interface of basic and translational cancer research. The position is funded through the Health + Life Science Alliance program: https://www.health-life-sciences.de/opportunities/postdocs/ and offers the opportunity to develop an independent project at the interface of basic and translational cancer research. Deadline: March 31, 2026 Please feel free to reach out if you are interested.
Research visit to Heidelberg – New collaboration with the Taylor Lab and exciting Mef2 research!
We were very pleased to host Chelsea Stevenson, a visiting PhD student from the Taylor Lab in Cardiff, for a research stay in our lab at Heidelberg University. During her visit, Chelsea became an integral part of the lab, contributing enthusiastically to ongoing projects and helping to establish an exciting new research direction focused on Mef2.
Our first preprint is out!
We’re excited to share our latest work, with key contributions from Laura Schütze and Maria Musillo, and many helping hands across the lab. A true team effort!
We uncovered a spatially distinct population of muscle progenitors that remains less committed due to graded Wnt/β-catenin signaling, which represses Mef2. This reveals a new layer of spatial regulation in the developing muscle niche and offers insight into how stem cell potential is maintained during development. https://www.biorxiv.org/content/10.1101/2025.07.17.665417v1
We organized our first Muscle Mini-Symposium in Heidelberg!
Together with Julia von Maltzahn, we organized this event with exciting talks and lively discussions, and with everything running smoothly thanks to Maria, it was a great success!
Women in Life Sciences Symposium – a great event with Josy as speaker!
Together with Mareike Albert and Franziska Knopf, we co-organized the symposium at the CRTD in Dresden. The day brought inspiring science, career insights, and excellent networking opportunities.
Well done, Bilyana!
Bilyana successfully completed her B.Sc. thesis in our lab, and we are proud of her progress and achievements. We are also happy that she will continue supporting our research as a Hiwi during her master’s studies at the University of Heidelberg.
Welcome, Mugdhaa!
We are pleased to finally welcome Mugdhaa, a new master’s student from India, to our lab after some hassle with obtaining her visa. We look forward to the fresh perspectives and contributions she will bring to our team.
